Tuesday Tip: How to cut/prepare chicken wings

Chicken wings are super easy to prepare and really quick cooking, so get over your intimidation of them if you have one.

All you have to do is take your chicken shears and clip the end tips off of each wing. After that you want to take the wing and see that there will be two pieces to each wing now. Think of your arm with the elbow in the middle. Take the scissors and snip the piece of fat there in the middle, then you want to break/snap that bone and then use your kitchen scissors again to cut through all the way to make two pieces. Now you can trim off some of that excess fat if you want to as well.

Cook however you want! One easy way that I did it last week: lay them all on a plate, brush the tops with any barbecue sauce you like, then lay them barbecue side down on a hot grill. Then baste the tops with more barbecue sauce and grill for 5 minutes. Flip and baste the other side one more time and grill another 5 min. or so. Easy Peesy! (as my kids say)

Tuesday Tip

Use your pizza cutter
A pizza cutter is perfect for cutting up anything for your kids into small bites, but especially for cutting up pancakes and waffles. Just make slits down, turn the plate and go the other way. Even a fried egg, tortillas, grilled cheese, canned pears...you name it. So put that pizza cutter to work!

Tuesday TIp!!!

I decided to start doing a "Tuesday Tip" every Tuesday. Just something little to help the every day cooker to help make their life a little easier. So today's tip is brought to you by my sister Nicole Riggs!!

The easiest way to clean a crock pot after a meal is to fill it full of dish soap and water and turn the crock pot on warm. Let it soak for a few hours, or I've even let it soak over night. Scrub all the edges, dump the water out and tada good as new:)

How to Cut an Onion

I think we need a little bit of fun on our blog, so in that spirit here is my how to on cutting an onion. (I'm sure some of you know this technique, but I know I'm not the only one that sat and cut up an onion like a bell pepper for years)

Step 1: Find your kids swimming goggles- the bigger the better as to not put on a crying fest
Steps 2: Peel the onion and cut off the top
Step 3: From the top where you just made your cut, cut down into the onion 1/2 - 3/4 the way through the onion vertically from left to right about a 1/2 inch apart
Step 4: Turn the onion 90 degrees and repeat the above step (make sure you are holding it really tightly together for these steps so it doesn't fall apart and make sure you don't cut too deep or it will fall apart)
Your onion should look like this now
Step 5: Now lay the onion back down on it's side (cuts should be on the left or the right) and cut every 1/2 inches all the way through
Now wasn't that easy! :)
